Today is a trip to the Vatican museum, St Peter's Basilica, The Sistine Chapel, and St Peters Square. We picked the early tour to avoid lots of crowds and to ensure we didn't have to queue as the general public only admitted from 9am ( Oh ... and a miner point ( honest ) so I could catch some rays at the Dolce Gabbana Pool later ! ).
Despite getting picked up at 6.30am we didnt start the tour until 8am ( and the Vatican is literally 10 mins up the road ! ) ... the Italians are really nor known for their efficiency ... but you just have to go with it or you will blow a gasket. In the end I was glad we sis the early trip, as you got time to see alot. We were amazed at the statues, tapestry, and Frescos. Michelangelo was certainly a busy chap painting that amazing ceiling ( Creation ) and the Last Judgement, as well as turning his hand to marble statues and designing the dome. The Basilica is one amazing church, steeped in history, with the biggest marble carvings I have seen, the vastness is incredible. Michelangelo's dome soars 119m above the alter.
We thought we had captured some great photographs along the route, only to find our camera was on the wrong setting ...I couldnt believe it !!! So we had to do the Basilica twice - so I am now an expert on this particular church !!!!
Well that's the tours over for Rome and my feet have a short rest ( thanks to Ross for his top tips ! ) Its now pool time ( thankfully " Adyano" turns back to just " Ady " by the pool and is not wearing a pair of white speedos with pride !!!
....... well back to breathing in !!!
We have a 5 hour drive to Venice tomorrow, and very much looking forward to the next leg of the trip .... see you in Venice !!!! Ciao Ciao
