When In Rome

It is sad to leave the beautiful Tuscan countryside, however, I was slightly yearning some civilisation ! Our hosts Chiara, Sabino and little Gian have been fantastic, as well as the Boss and his two side kicks, Rufus ( the pig ) and his less friendly other half ! The place was so charming and have had a fantastic time.

It took us 3.5 hours to get to Rome, however, as we headed closer to our destination, the crazy Italian driving went up a notch ! I hasten to add " Adyano's " crazy driving also went up a notch ... Again quoting " when in Rome ! .." ( I think that saying is going to be used quite a lot !! )

We are staying at a hotel while in Rome, just outside the centre. We arrived safely and in one piece, and immediately sprung into excited " tourist mode " armed with a camera, we jumped on the free bus and headed into the centre of Rome.

All I can say is " WOW ", what an incredible place. There are so many levels to Rome. There is so much history to see, which gives a true view of Roman times, there is certainly a religious aspect , which can't help but wash over you. The architecture blows you away on every turn, and the Italian hustle and bustle of bars and restaurants just gives you such an amazing feeling.... I love this place...it's the daddy of all cities ! This city is relaxed yet sophisticated all at the same time. If you have not been to Rome, I would say its got to be a must.

So a little history for you ....Romulus became the fist king of Rome on 21 April 753 BC ( My little bro's birthday ), the Roman republic was founded in 509 BC and Julius Caesar wrestled power in BC 49 - he was then assassinated 5 years later... I just love all this history.

We have already seen a lot .... The area around the Piazza Navona, Compo de' Fiori, Pantheon, Piazza Barberini.

Tomorrow we are booked to see the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Imperial Forums. We've pre booked everything to avoid all the queue's again.

Now going to enjoy a nice glass of wine and an Italian dinner. Ciao Ciao.
